What's New
The website and the Play app load the same site, so most changes reach both the moment they are released. A change marked Play app update is part of the app itself, and arrives when Google Play updates it.
1.5.0 October 8, 2026
- The free tier is now the top 30 cocktails, down from the top 50. Study and both quizzes deal from the top 30. The Index still shows all 370 recipes to read and search. If you studied any of ranks 31–50 for free, your scores and mastered cards are kept, and they come back if you get Pro.
- Master all 30 free cocktails and the study screen offers Pro to keep going.
- Index filters: a new 🏆 Mastered filter shows only the cocktails you've mastered. It combines with Tried and Not Tried, so you can find what you know by heart but have never drunk.
- The menu, the study screen and the all-done screen now say "mastered" everywhere, instead of sometimes "learned".
- With Pro, you pick which cocktails you study from the Index. Without it, the Index still shows every recipe, and your deck is dealt from the top 30.
- Two new cocktails, the Crypt Keeper and the Alien Breeze, bringing the full library to 370.
- The Brandy Crusta now follows the IBA recipe: a little less Cognac, a teaspoon of simple syrup and two dashes of bitters.
1.4.6 October 1, 2026
- Browse All Recipes: a new link at the foot of the menu opens every recipe in the book on one page, grouped by base spirit. The About & Contact and Privacy pages link to it too.
- A mistyped or outdated recipe link now says the recipe wasn't found and points to the full list, instead of opening the app.
1.4.5 October 1, 2026
- 35 more cocktails, bringing the full library to 368: tiki drinks like the Jet Pilot, Lost Lake and Royal Hawaiian, classics like the Floradora, Knickerbocker and Dempsey, and flavored Margaritas and Daiquiris.
- Suggest a cocktail for the book. The About & Contact page has a new Submit a Cocktail section, linked from the foot of the menu and from an Index search that finds nothing.
- This page: What's New lists what changed in each release, linked from the foot of the menu and from the About & Contact page.
- The website links to the Android app on Google Play.
1.4.4 September 26, 2026
- In the Play app, the ad banner stays at the bottom of the screen when the keyboard opens, instead of rising over the Index's search box. (Play app update)
- The app now spells everything in American English, starting with the Color Scheme setting.
1.4.3 September 25, 2026
- The website now uses Google Analytics to count visits and which features get used. The privacy policy lists it.
- The Play app does the same. (Play app update)
1.4.2 September 25, 2026
- No visible changes.
1.4.1 September 25, 2026
- In the Play app, every screen leaves room at the bottom for the ad banner, so the last buttons, like Color Scheme, are no longer hidden behind it.
1.4.0 September 25, 2026
- In the free Play app, a full-screen ad can appear at the end of a quiz: after every second quiz at most, no more than once every three minutes, never after the first quiz of a session, and never once you have removed ads.
1.3.8 September 24, 2026
- An Update Available banner tells you when Google Play has a newer version of the app than the one you are running.
- After you have used the app for a while, a banner asks for a rating in the Play app, or for feedback on the website. Close it and it waits longer before asking again.
- Android's Back button moves between the app's screens instead of closing it, and asks before leaving a quiz. (Play app update)
- Phones stay in portrait; tablets can still rotate. (Play app update)
- Muddled drinks put things in the glass in order: sugar first, then mint or fruit, then the spirits.
- Recipe fixes: the Vesper is poured to the IBA's 1½ : ½ : ¼, the Bloody Marys list celery salt and black pepper separately, the duplicate Sidecar is gone, and the Bellini, Rossini and Mimosa are built rather than shaken.
- Garnishes are capitalized the same way as the ingredients.
- Smaller fixes: the sign-in button stays in place, the Future theme's title fits on one line, Backup & Reset links to the privacy policy, and there is no longer blank space at the bottom of the page.
1.3.7 September 21, 2026
- A new About & Contact page, with a contact form, linked from the foot of the menu.
- The footer says where you are running the app: on the web, or which Android build.
1.3.6 September 19, 2026
- Long-press the app icon on Android to go straight to Study, Self Quiz or 86 It. (Play app update)
- 86 It no longer offers a wrong answer the drink already contains: Overproof Rum in the Illegal and the Nuclear Daiquiri, or milk in the Sombrero.
1.3.5 September 19, 2026
- Signing in with Google in the Play app no longer ends on a blank white page. An install too old to sign in asks you to update it from Google Play instead.
- A sign-in that stalls now gives up after 15 seconds with a message, instead of waiting forever.
1.3.4 September 18, 2026
- 86 It no longer offers an ingredient the drink already has under another name, such as Triple Sec against a Margarita made with Cointreau.
- Self Quiz asks about the cocktails you have studied, instead of ten at random from the whole book.
- Recipe fixes to the True Blood, the Whiskey Sour and the New York Sour.
1.3.3 September 16, 2026
- With no signal, the app opens within a few seconds instead of hanging on a blank screen, and it no longer comes up in an old color scheme.
- The Espresso Martini is garnished with three espresso beans.
- The privacy policy's section on deleting your data names the controls that actually exist, and says plainly what clearing your progress does and doesn't erase.
