About Me
I'm Steve Scott. I am a software developer. I needed to make some side money so I took up bartending, and wanted a tool to help me memorize cocktails, so I made this app here.
It is really handy for memorizing cocktails, and the index page is crucial behind the bar to quickly look up recipes, even when I set my phone to airplane mode during my shift. I also designed it to work during my subway commute from Newark, New Jersey when there is no signal.
If you have trouble with the site, a cocktail suggestion or critique, want to say hi, or need a bartender, reach out to me through the contact form.
Cheers, kanpai, chin chin, bottoms up, and happy trails to you.
About the App
Cocktail Flashcards is a study app for learning cocktail recipes by heart — the ingredients, the exact measurements, the glass, the method and the garnish.
The app holds a book of classic and modern-classic drinks, and gives you a few ways through them:
- Study cards, one drink at a time, with the recipe on the back.
- Self-quizzing, either a short round or the whole book, scored as you go.
- A searchable index of every drink, browsable by base spirit.
- A tried tracker, so you can mark off what you have actually made.
- Your progress and your purchases follow your account once you sign in — the same study history on the web and in the app, and ad removal bought on either one counts for both.
Recipes follow IBA specifications where one exists, and standard bartending practice where one doesn't. Without an account, progress stays on the device you made it on.
Curious what changed lately? Every release is listed on the What's New page.
Get in Touch
Corrections are genuinely welcome — if a spec looks wrong, it may well be, and a message naming the drink and the source you'd expect is the fastest way to get it fixed.
Submit a Cocktail
Know a drink that belongs in the book? Send it in — submissions are welcome, whether it's a classic I've missed, a modern classic, or a house recipe from your own bar. Choose A recipe submission in the form below and include:
- The name of the drink.
- Every ingredient with its measurement, in ounces if you can.
- The glass, the method (shaken, stirred, built…) and the garnish.
- Where it comes from — the bar, bartender, book or IBA spec it's based on.
Recipes in the app follow IBA specifications where one exists, so a submission may be adjusted to match before it goes in.
